A consortium of 15 partners coordinated by ACTeon, will work on ResponSEAble. The strengths of our Consortium are the combination of expertise and skills, the capacity to cover all components of the ocean knowledge system, from the production of knowledge to its final use experience in a wide range of communication and literacy products and initiatives.

Our team coverage of the main regional seas relevant to the EU (the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Atlantic façade) Its transatlantic dimension an excellent access to the main regional, European and international Networks on Marine knowledge.

ProSea Foundation

ProSea is a non-profit organization that specializes in educating maritime professionals about sustainable use of the oceans. ProSea’s mission is to teach and inspire current and future seafarers, fishermen, dredgers and offshore workers to protect the sea, their working environment. ProSea has provided courses since 2001 to more than 7.000 participants.

Erik Bogaard

Erik Bogaard

Erik has 20 years of experience with educating maritime professionals about the marine environment and sustainability. At ProSea, Erik has developed several courses, including the IMO model course Marine Environmental Awareness for ship’s officers and he has conducted over 150 awareness courses. In ResponSEAble, Erik will be involved in finding and developing best practices for ocean literacy, specifically for maritime professionals.

Tim Haasnoot

Tim Haasnoot

Tim Haasnoot graduated with a MSc degree in Aquaculture & Marine Resource Management at the Wageningen University in the Netherlands. He graduated in 2015 after completing his MSc thesis at the Environmental Policy Group. During his MSc thesis he explored the process of fishing gear transitions, thereby focussing on the transition in the Dutch flatfish cutter fleet from the conventional beam trawl to the pulse trawl. He has been working at ProSea since September 2015.

Marieke Verweij

Marieke Verweij

Involvement in ResponSEAble: studying how stakeholders perceive the ocean and their influence on the ocean (mainly involved in WP3). Specialization: connecting the dots between ecology/sociology/economy (multidisciplinary). Inspired by people’s motivations, choices, perceptions and behaviour towards the marine environment, and in sustainable ocean use which makes good business sense as well as ecological sense. Background: PhD in tropical marine ecology (fish life cycle migrations between mangroves, seagrass beds and coral reefs), post-doc in sociology (perceptions of stakeholders in North Sea fisheries management). Marieke Verweij has been working at ProSea since March 2010. As of september 2015, she has also been working as a teacher/researcher Maritime Environmental Economics at Van Hall Larenstein, University of Applied Sciences, Coastal and Marine Management.
