ResponSEAble – Protecting the ocean Our team – Marine Coastal Policy

A consortium of 15 partners coordinated by ACTeon, will work on ResponSEAble. The strengths of our Consortium are the combination of expertise and skills, the capacity to cover all components of the ocean knowledge system, from the production of knowledge to its final use experience in a wide range of communication and literacy products and initiatives.

Our team coverage of the main regional seas relevant to the EU (the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Atlantic façade) Its transatlantic dimension an excellent access to the main regional, European and international Networks on Marine knowledge.

 

Marine Coastal Policy

The Centre for Marine and Coastal Policy Research which is part of Plymouth University’s internationally renowned Marine Institute consists of inter-disciplinary marine scientists who specialise in researching and supporting the links between people and the oceans. Our aim is to facilitate the sustainable management of coastal and marine systems through the application of sound science to support evidence-based policy decisions. Plymouth University will be involved in WP1, WP3, WP4, WP5 and WP7.

Steve Fletcher

Steve’s key research interests are focused upon marine citizenship: connecting society and the sea. He is interested in how individual behaviour can be harnessed to support the delivery of effective marine conservation outcomes. This includes the mechanisms through which citizens learn about and interact with the marine environment.

Gillian Glegg

Gillian Glegg

Gillian’s interests focus on the links between science and policy in the management of people’s activities and impacts on marine and coastal waters including, for example, regulation and control of marine pollution from point and diffuse sources; integrated coastal zone management and the implementation of marine spatial planning.

Sian Rees

Sian Rees

Sian’s research focusses on defining and modelling social-ecological systems, spatial resource use, the effects of human pressures, their underlying drivers and links to ecosystem services (economic, ecological, social and cultural values) that underpin human well-being. Her research aim is to strengthen the connections between science, society and policy at local, national and international scales and to support efforts to manage and conserve coastal and marine resources and systems.
